Chart Guide

1 SD Live Pts

The expected move for the rest of today, in points: the opening 1SD (VIX1D at the open) moved by the live 0DTE straddle — opening 1SD × (straddle now ÷ opening straddle). It shrinks toward the close as the straddle decays and rises if the straddle does. It is the width of 1 SD Live, except that it is not held. On a day without minute-by-minute straddle data it is the opening 1SD × √(minutes left ÷ 390).

1 SD Avg Pts

The typical 1 SD Live Pts for this time of day. For each of the last N trading days, every minute's straddle is taken as a share of that day's opening straddle; those shares are averaged and multiplied by this day's opening 1SD. The number in parentheses is how many days had straddle data.

SD Bands — ±1SD / ±2SD Daily Expected Move (VIX1D)

The day's 1-standard-deviation range implied by VIX1D, Cboe's one-day volatility index, at the open: SD = SPX open × (VIX1D open ÷ 100) ÷ √365, doubled for ±2SD. Anchored to the opening SPX price and fixed for the day.

1 SD Live

1 SD Live Pts drawn above and below each candle's midpoint: the opening 1SD moved by the live 0DTE straddle. It follows price and pinches together toward the close; the width is held so it never widens again, even if the straddle rises. Updates about once a minute.

Weekly ±1SD

1 standard deviation range for the full week, implied by VIX9D — Cboe's 9-day volatility index, the closest to a week. Anchored to the prior Friday's close: SD = SPX close × (VIX9D close ÷ 100) × √(days ÷ 365), where days is the calendar days from that close to this week's Friday close (7 in a normal week). Handles holidays by using the last available trading day of the prior week.

Call vs Put view

Call gamma (right)

Dealer gamma from calls at this strike, extending right. Big green bars above price are ceilings/magnets — heavy hedging pins and stalls rallies there.

Put gamma (left)

Dealer gamma from puts, extending left. Big red bars below price are floors dealers defend — price tends to bounce or slow into them.

Net view

Positive Gamma

Net call − put gamma is positive here. Market makers are long gamma: they sell rallies and buy dips to hedge, a stabilizing force. Price tends to be attracted toward high positive gamma strikes.

Negative Gamma

Net gamma is negative here. Market makers are short gamma: they buy rallies and sell dips, amplifying moves. Negative gamma zones can lead to accelerated trending and increased volatility.

Call Wall

The strike with the largest concentration of positive call gamma. Acts as a ceiling — heavy dealer hedging creates strong resistance as price approaches. Price often stalls or reverses here.

Put Wall

The strike with the largest concentration of negative put gamma. Acts as a floor — dealers must buy aggressively as price falls toward this level, often causing a bounce or slowing the decline.

Net GEX

The sum of gamma exposure across all strikes. Positive net GEX = overall stabilizing environment. Negative net GEX = dealers are net short gamma, meaning the market is more prone to sharp directional moves. The gamma flip is where net GEX crosses zero.
